CHAPTER 54 — वृत्तिः | Attitude
अस्माकम् प्राथमिक-ऊर्जा-प्रबन्धन-यन्त्रम् | Our Primary Energy Management Apparatus
जीवने अस्माकम् नियन्त्रणे अतीव अल्पाणि वस्तूनि सन्ति — अस्माकम् वृत्तिः तेषु प्राथमिका। वृत्तिः अस्माकम् प्रधान-उपकरणम् दश-मन-व्यक्तिगत-ऊर्जा-संचालने। वृत्तिना वयं क्षण-मात्रे किमपि व्यक्तिगत-ऊर्जां परिवर्तयामः। महामार्ग-जनाः निपुण-ऊर्जा-कर्मिणो भवन्ति यत् एतत् अस्माकम् अभ्यास-विषयः। वयं यत् वृत्तिम् इच्छामः तस्य चयने स्वतन्त्र-इच्छा अस्ति॥१॥
jīvane asmākam niyantrae atīva alpāṇi vastūni santi — asmākam vṛttiḥ teṣu prāthamikā। vṛttiḥ asmākam pradhāna-upakaraṇam daśa-mana-vyaktīgata-ūrjā-saṃcālane। vṛttinā vayaṃ kṣaṇa-mātre kimapi vyaktigata-ūrjāṃ parivartayāmaḥ। mahāmārga-janāḥ nipuṇa-ūrjā-karmiṇo bhavanti yat etat asmākam abhyāsa-viṣayaḥ। vayaṃ yat vṛttim icchāmaḥ tasya cayane svatantra-icchā asti॥1॥
There are profoundly few things in life over which we have control — and our Attitude is the primary one. Attitude is our master tool to manipulate personal energies of the ten minds. With Attitude, we change any personal energy in an instant. People of theWAY become expert energy workers because that is what we are training for. We have free will to choose whatever attitude we desire.
त्व-वृत्तिं परिवर्तय, सा त्व-ऊर्जाम्, त्व-मनः, त्व-परिवेशम्, त्व-समुदायं च परिवर्तयिष्यति—अत्र त्वं जगत्-परिवर्तने मार्गे गच्छसि। शुभ-वृत्तीन् चिनुहि शुभ-जगत् च निर्मिणु॥२॥
tva-vṛttiṃ parivartaya, sā tva-ūrjām, tva-manaḥ, tva-pariveśam, tva-samudāyaṃ ca parivartayiṣyati—atra tvaṃ jagat-parivartane mārge gacchasi। śubha-vṛttīn cinuhi śubha-jagat ca nirmiṇu॥2॥
Change your attitude, it will change your energy, your mind, your environment, and your community—and there you go on your way to changing the world. Choose good attitudes and make a good world.
महामार्गिणः सुख-वृत्तिं महत्-हास्य-बोधं च विकसयन्ति, यत् जीवने सु-कार्यं कर्तुं आवश्यकम्। जीवनं विडम्बना-पूर्णम्, अस्माभिः कृत-भ्रान्तिभिः, अन्तर्गत-अनेक-स्वरैः ये अस्माभिः प्रसादनीयाः मौनीकरणीयाः बहिष्करणीयाः वा, प्रकृति-अहङ्कार-वासनाभिः सह अनेक-मूर्ख-संग्रामैश्च। यदि त्वं स्वस्मिन् हसितुम्, अस्माकम् चिन्तन-विडम्बना-सम्पूर्ण-मूर्खतायाम्, द्विमान-स्तरेषु, भय-आशङ्कासु, अहंकारिक-युद्धेषु, अन्येषां गुरुतायां च हसितुं न शक्नोषि, तर्हि जीवनं सर्वेषां कृते कठिनतरम्। हास्यं हानिकर-समूह-चिन्तने प्रकाशम् आनयति, अस्मभ्यम् राज-विदूषक-योगदानम् आवश्यकम् वृक्ष-दर्शने वृक्षाणाम् कृते॥३॥
mahāmārgiṇaḥ sukha-vṛttiṃ mahat-hāsya-bodhaṃ ca vikasayanti, yat jīvane su-kāryaṃ kartuṃ āvaśyakam। jīvanaṃ viḍambanā-pūrṇam, asmābhiḥ kṛta-bhrāntibhiḥ, antargate-aneka-svaraiḥ ye asmābhiḥ prasādanīyāḥ maunīkaraṇīyāḥ bahiṣkaraṇīyāḥ vā, prakṛti-ahaṅkāra-vāsanābhiḥ saha aneka-mūrkha-saṅgrāmaiś ca। yadi tvaṃ svasmin hasitum, asmākam cintana-viḍambanā-sampūrṇa-mūrkhatāyām, dvimāna-stareṣu, bhaya-āśaṅkāsu, ahaṅkārika-yuddheṣu, anyeṣāṃ gurutāyāṃ ca hasituṃ na śaknoṣi, tarhi jīvanaṃ sarveṣāṃ kṛte kaṭhinataram। hāsyaṃ hānikara-samūha-cintane prakāśam ānayati, asmabhyam rāja-vidūṣaka-yogadānam āvaśyakam vṛkṣa-darśane vṛkṣāṇām kṛte॥3॥
Wayists develop a happy attitude and a great sense of humor, which is required to do a good job at living. Life is filled with irony, mistakes we make, so many voices inside we have to appease and shut up or shut out, and many silly struggles with nature and egos, and desires. If you cannot laugh at yourself, or at the irony and sheer stupidity of our thinking, double standards, phobias and egotistical battles as well as the seriousness of others, then life is harder for all concerned. Humor serves to shine a light on damaging groupthink and we need the court jester’s input to help us see the forest for the trees.
हास्यं हर्षश्च कल्याणकारी भवन्ति तदा औषधाः, ये न केवलं हस्तिनः वरन् परिवेशमपि चिकित्सन्ति। रेडियो-सक्रिय-तरङ्गाणां स्वभावे चिकित्सक-विनाशक-क्षमता द्वयमपि अस्ति॥४॥
hāsyaṃ harṣaś ca kalyāṇakārī bhavanti tadā auṣadhāḥ, ye na kevalaṃ hastinaḥ varan pariveśamapi cikitsanti। reḍiyo-sakriya-taraṅgāṇāṃ svabhāve cikitsaka-vināśaka-kṣamatā dvayamapi asti॥4॥
Laughter and joy are medicines when benign, which heal not only the one who laughs but also the environment. The nature of radioactive and radio waves have both healing and destructive potential.
मनोरञ्जन-हास्यस्य स्वभावे चिकित्सक-विनाशक-क्षमता द्वयमपि अस्ति॥५॥
manorañjana-hāsyasya svabhāve cikitsaka-vināśaka-kṣamatā dvayamapi asti॥5॥
The nature of fun and laughter have both healing and destructive potential.
महामार्गिणः स्व-स्थानं सुख-हर्षेण पूरयन्ति। महामार्गिणो मन्यन्ते यत् ईश्वरो यत् स/सा करोति तत् आनन्दयति (मानवीकरणम् उद्दिष्टम्) अतः आनन्दो महामार्गे अन्तर्निहितः, सर्व-ऊर्जा-प्लाज्मा-पदार्थ-प्रति-पदार्थ-क्रियाकलापे संमिश्रितः यत्र वयम् अस्ति॥६॥
mahāmārgiṇaḥ sva-sthānaṃ sukha-harṣeṇa pūrayanti। mahāmārgiṇo manyante yat īśvaro yat sa/sā karoti tat ānandayati (mānavīkaraṇam uddiṣṭam) ataḥ ānando mahāmārge antarnihitaḥ, sarva-ūrjā-plājmā-padārtha-prati-padārtha-kriyākālāpe saṃmiśritaḥ yatra vayam asti॥6॥
Wayists fill their space with happiness and joy. Wayists like to think that God enjoys what S/He does (anthropomorphism intended) and therefore joy is inherent in theWAY, and is fused into the activity of all energies, plasma, matter and anti-matter within which we exist.
आनन्दो महामार्गस्य स्वभावः यदा दुःखं कष्टं च महामार्गस्य अभिप्रायो न॥७॥
ānando mahāmārgasya svabhāvaḥ yadā duḥkhaṃ kaṣṭaṃ ca mahāmārgasya abhiprāyo na॥7॥
Joy is the nature of theWAY while sadness and suffering are not the intention of theWAY.
महामार्गिणाम् हितैषी-वृत्तिः यत् महामार्गस्य स्वभावो हितम् कर्तुं, पोषयितुं, प्रदातुं, प्राणिनाम् सम्भावना-सिद्धौ सहायतां च कर्तुम्। महामार्गिणो ददातुं गृहीतुं यतः अधिकम् इति जीवन्ति॥८॥
mahāmārgiṇām hitaiṣī-vṛttiḥ yat mahāmārgasya svabhāvo hitam kartuṃ, poṣayituṃ, pradātuṃ, prāṇināṃ sambhāvanā-siddhau sahāyatāṃ ca kartum। mahāmārgiṇo dadātuṃ gṛhītuṃ yataḥ adhikam iti jīvanti॥8॥
Wayists have a benevolent attitude because it is the nature of theWAY to do good, to nurture, to provide, and to help creatures achieve their potential. Wayists live to give more than they take.
महामार्गिणाम् भक्ति-वृत्तिः यत् महामार्गस्य स्वभावः। प्राणिनाम् इव यत् श्वसामः तत् दिव्यम्, यत् चिन्तयामः तत् दिव्येन उपलब्ध-ऊर्जा, यत् भक्षयामः ते भ्राता-प्राणिनः येषु दिव्यं प्रवहति। सर्वेषु दिव्य-विषयेषु भक्ति-वृत्तिम् विना कथं स्थातुम्? यत् वयम् स्मो यत् भविष्यामश्च—सर्वम् दिव्ये दिव्यस्य कारणात् च॥९॥
mahāmārgiṇām bhakti-vṛttiḥ yat mahāmārgasya svabhāvaḥ। prāṇinām iva yat śvasāmaḥ tat divyam, yat cintayāmaḥ tat divyena upalabdha-ūrjā, yat bhakṣayāmaḥ te bhrātā-prāṇinaḥ yeṣu divyaṃ pravahati। sarveṣu divya-viṣayeṣu bhakti-vṛttim vinā kathaṃ sthātum? yat vayam smo yat bhaviṣyāmaś ca—sarvam divye divyasya kāraṇāt ca॥9॥
Wayists have a reverent attitude because it is the nature of theWAY. As creatures, what we breathe is the Divine, what we think is energy made available by the Divine, what we eat are neighbor creatures who also have the Divine flowing through them. How can one not have a reverent attitude to all things Divine? What we are and what we are becoming—all are in the Divine and because of It.
महामार्गी अवगच्छति यत् वृत्तिः केवलं मानसिक-अवस्था न, किन्तु वास्तविकता-आकार-दानेषु शक्तिशाली बलम्। सकारात्मक-वृत्ति-चेतना-संवर्धनेन सा जगति प्रकाश-दीप-स्तम्भो भवति॥१०॥
mahāmārgī avagacchati yat vṛttiḥ kevalaṃ mānasika-avasthā na, kintu vāstavikatatā-ākāra-dāneṣu śaktiśālī balam। sakārātmaka-vṛtti-cetanā-saṃvardhanaena sā jagati prakāśa-dīpa-stambho bhavati॥10॥
The Wayist understands that attitude is not just a mental state, but a powerful force that shapes reality. With mindful cultivation of positive attitudes, she becomes a beacon of light in the world.
सुख-वृत्ति-संवर्धने महामार्गी कष्ट-अस्तित्वम् न इन्कारयति। अपितु सा जीवन-आव्हानान् मुक्त-हृदयेन लघु-आत्मना च सम्मुखी-कर्तुं चिनोति॥११॥
sukha-vṛtti-saṃvardhane mahāmārgī kaṣṭa-astitvam na iṅkārayati। apitu sā jīvana-āvhānān mukta-hṛdayena laghu-ātmanā ca sammukhi-kartuṃ cinoti॥11॥
In cultivating a joyful attitude, the Wayist does not deny the existence of suffering. Rather, she chooses to meet life’s challenges with an open heart and a light spirit.
भक्ति-वृत्तिः जीवनस्य सर्व-पक्षेषु विस्तृता। महामार्गी साधारणे पवित्रं पश्यति, सरलतम-अनुभवेषु विस्मयम् लभते॥१२॥
bhakti-vṛttiḥ jīvanasya sarva-pakṣeṣu vistṛtā। mahāmārgī sādhāraṇe pavitraṃ paśyati, saralatama-anubhaveṣu vismayam labhate॥12॥
The attitude of reverence extends to all aspects of life. The Wayist sees the sacred in the ordinary, finding wonder in the simplest experiences.
