CHAPTER 59 — भौतिक-अतिभौतिक-परिरक्षणम् | Physical and Metaphysical Maintenance
प्राचीन-महामार्गिणः देह-परिचर्यायाः उत्तमान् पद्धतीन् विकसितवन्तः। एतत् शास्त्रम् तेषु पद्धतिषु सुधारम् कर्तुम् न शक्नोति॥१॥
prācīna-mahāmārgiṇaḥ deha-paricaryāyāḥ uttamān paddhatīn vikasitavantaḥ। etat śāstram teṣu paddhatiṣu sudhāram kartum na śaknoti॥1॥
Ancient Wayists developed regimes to best care for the body. This text cannot improve upon these regimes.
जीवस्य वाहनम्, मानव-देहः जटिल-इकाई दैनिक-परिरक्षण-उत्तम-ईंधन-आवश्यकः। महामार्गी इन्द्रिय-सुखदायक-पुनः-पूरण-पद्धतिं पालयति॥२॥
jīvasya vāhanam, mānava-dehaḥ jaṭila-ikāī dainika-parirakṣaṇa-uttama-īṃdhana-āvaśyakaḥ। mahāmārgī indriya-sukhadāyaka-punaḥ-pūraṇa-paddhatiṃ pālayati॥2॥
The soul’s vehicle, the human body, is a complex unit requiring daily maintenance and good fuel. The Wayist maintains a sensuous refueling regime.
मानव-देहो अर्बुद-अर्बुद-जीवानाम् पारिस्थितिकी-तन्त्रम्। सः दिवस-क्रिया-रात्रि-पुनरुज्जीवनार्थम् निर्मितः। एतत् प्राकृतिक-चक्रस्य पालनम् जीवस्य प्राथमिक-उत्तरदायित्वम्॥३॥
mānava-deho arbuda-arbuda-jīvānām pāristhitikī-tantram। saḥ divasa-kriyā-rātri-punarujjīvanārtham nirmitaḥ। etat prākṛtika-cakrasya pālanam jīvasya prāthamika-uttaradāyitvam॥3॥
The human body is an ecosystem of billions of organisms. It’s made for daytime activity and nighttime rejuvenation. Maintaining this natural cycle is the soul’s primary responsibility.
देह-मनसो सन्तुलित-क्रिया आवश्यका। देहस्य सर्व-भागानाम् मनसश्च सर्व-शक्तीनाम् व्यायामार्थम् विविध-क्रियासु प्रवृत्तो भव॥४॥
deha-manaso santulita-kriyā āvaśyakā। dehasya sarva-bhāgānām manasaś ca sarva-śaktīnām vyāyāmārtham vividha-kriyāsu pravṛtto bhava॥4॥
The body and mind require balanced activity. Engage in various activities to exercise all parts of the body and faculties of the mind.
हठ-योग-ताइजि भिन्नौ अपि उत्कृष्ट-समग्र-परिरक्षण-पद्धती। द्वावपि पुनरुज्जीवनम्, ऊर्जा-प्रवाहम्, स्व-केन्द्रीय-प्रवाह-सह-पुनः-संरेखणं च सुकरं कुरुतः॥५॥
haṭha-yoga-tāiji bhinnau api utkṛṣṭa-samagra-parirakṣaṇa-paddhatī। dvāvapi punarujjīvanam, ūrjā-pravāham, sva-kendrīya-pravāha-saha-punaḥ-saṃrekhaṇaṃ ca sukaraṃ kurutaḥ॥5॥
Hatha Yoga and Taiji, though different, are excellent holistic maintenance regimes. Both facilitate regeneration, energy flow, and realignment with one’s central Flow.
मौलिक-महामार्गीय-सक्रिय-ध्यानम् इदानीं द्वयोः पद्धत्योः तत्त्वान् संयोजयति। तत् देह-मन-जीव-दैनिक-परिरक्षणस्य उत्कृष्ट-दिनचर्या॥६॥
maulika-mahāmārgīya-sakriya-dhyānam idānīṃ dvayoḥ paddhtyoḥ tattvān saṃyojayati। tat deha-mana-jīva-dainika-parirakṣaṇasya utkṛṣṭa-dinacaryā॥6॥

आधुनिक-निष्क्रिय-जीवन-संस्कृत-आहार-काले उत्कृष्ट-अभ्यासाः अपि न पर्याप्ताः भवेयुः। आहारे सावधानता आत्यन्तिकी॥७॥
ādhunika-niṣkriya-jīvana-saṃskṛta-āhāra-kāle utkṛṣṭa-abhyāsāḥ api na paryāptāḥ bhaveyuḥ। āhāre sāvadhānatā ātyantikaī॥7॥
In modern times of sedentary lifestyles and processed foods, even the best practices may not suffice. Care in diet is essential.
कतिपय औषध-आहाराः स्व-भोजने उपस्थिताः स्युः: लवङ्गम्, मरिचम्, हरिद्रा, निम्बुकम्, नारिकेलम्, प्राकृतिक-दधि, लशुनम्, पलाण्डुम्, मद्यम्, कापी, कोको, चायानि इत्यादि॥८॥
katipaya auṣadha-āhārāḥ sva-bhojane upasthitāḥ syuḥ: lavaṅgam, maricam, haridrā, nimbukam, nārikeram, prākṛtika-dadhi, laśunam, palāṇḍum, madyam, kāpī, koko, cāyāni ityādi॥8॥
Certain medicinal foods should be present in one’s diet: cloves, peppers, turmeric, lime, coconut, natural yogurts, garlic, onion, wine, coffee, cacao, teas, etc.
सन्तुलित-आहारे समावेशनीयम्: धान्यानि, मुद्गादयः, मत्स्याः, तण्डुलाः, यवगोधूमाः, फलानि, शाकानि, अण्डानि, किलाटम्, बीजानि इत्यादि॥९॥
santulita-āhāre samāveśanīyam: dhānyāni, mudgādayaḥ, matsyāḥ, taṇḍulāḥ, yavagodhūmāḥ, phalāni, śākāni, aṇḍāni, kilāṭam, bījāni ityādi॥9॥
A balanced diet should include: pulses, beans, fish, rice, corn, wheat, fruit, vegetables, eggs, cheese, nuts, etc.
कतिपयानि आहार-द्रव्याणि परिमित-मात्रायाम्: रक्त-मांसम्, हार्मोन-चिकित्सित-पशु-उत्पादाः, संस्कृत-तैलानि, परिष्कृत-शर्करा, कृत्रिम-योजकाः इत्यादि॥१०॥
katipayāni āhāra-dravyāṇi parimita-mātrāyām: rakta-māṃsam, hārmona-cikitsita-paśu-utpādāḥ, saṃskṛta-tailāni, pariṣkṛta-śarkarā, kṛtrima-yojakāḥ ityādi॥10॥
Certain foods should be limited: red meat, hormone-treated animal products, processed oils, refined sugars, synthetic additives, etc.
अति-परिरक्षित-आहारेषु सावधानो भव। यदि कीटाः प्राकृतिक-क्षयश्च त्व-आहारम् वर्जयन्ति, तत् अति-संस्कृतम् “शव-सुरक्षितम्” वा भवितुम् शक्नोति॥११॥
ati-parirakṣita-āhāreṣu sāvadhāno bhava। yadi kīṭāḥ prākṛtika-kṣayaś ca tva-āhāram varjayanti, tat ati-saṃskṛtam “śava-surakṣitam” vā bhavitum śaknoti॥11॥
Be wary of heavily preserved foods. If insects and natural decay avoid your food, it may be over-processed or “embalmed”.
स्मर, मानव-देहाः पारिस्थितिकी-तन्त्राणि। अन्तर्गत-सर्व-जीवानाम् परिचर्या कुरु। सन्तुलनम् विचलितम्, व्याधिः अनुसरति॥१२॥
smara, mānava-dehāḥ pāristhitikī-tantrāṇi। antargate-sarva-jīvānām paricaryā kuru। santulanam vicalitam, vyādhiḥ anusarati॥12॥
Remember, human bodies are ecosystems. Care for all organisms within. Upset the balance, and disease follows.
जीवानाम् नियमित-परिरक्षणम् आवश्यकम्। जीव-आहारो इन्द्रिय-सुख-स्पर्श-सुख-हास्य-प्रेम-सौन्दर्य-करुणानुभवैः गठितः। आत्म-आहारो दिव्य-तारा-गुह्य-संयोगैः, स्वर्गस्य उपस्थिति-संवेदनेन, परिवेशस्थ-दिव्य-ऊर्जा-अनुभवेन च निर्मितः॥१३॥
jīvānām niyamita-parirakṣaṇam āvaśyakam। jīva-āhāro indriya-sukha-sparśa-sukha-hāsya-prema-saundarya-karuṇānubhavaiḥ gaṭhitaḥ। ātma-āhāro divya-tārā-guhya-saṃyogaiḥ, svargasya upasthiti-saṃvedanena, pariveśastha-divya-ūrjā-anubhavena ca nirmitaḥ॥13॥
Souls need regular maintenance too. Soul food consists of experiences of sensuousness, touch, happiness, joy, laughter, love, beauty, and compassion. Spirit food consists of mystical connections to Divine Tara, sensing Heaven’s presence and sensing divine energies in the environment.
भौतिक-पोषणस्य विपरीतम्, जीव-आत्म-आहारस्य अल्प-भौतिक-साधन-आवश्यकता। तत् प्रायः आर्थिक-न्यूनता-क्षेत्रेषु अधिक-प्राचुर्यम्॥१४॥
bhautika-poṣaṇasya viparītam, jīva-ātma-āhārasya alpa-bhautika-sādhana-āvaśyakatā। tat prāyaḥ ārthika-nyūnatā-kṣetreṣu adhika-prācuryam॥14॥
Unlike physical nourishment, soul and spirit food requires little material resource. It’s often more abundant in financially disadvantaged areas.
जीवानाम् ऊर्जा-संचय-महत्-क्षमता। सुपोषित-जीवाः “स्थूल-जीवैः” इव प्रतीकिताः, “सुखी-बुद्ध” इव॥१५॥
jīvānām ūrjā-saṃcaya-mahat-kṣamatā। supoṣita-jīvāḥ “sthūla-jīvaiḥ” iva pratīkitāḥ, “sukhī-buddha” iva॥15॥
Souls have great capacity to store energy. Well-fed souls are symbolized as ‘obese souls’, like the “happy Buddha”.
जीव-आत्म-परिरक्षणम् सकारात्मक-परिवेशे, उत्तम-देवालयेषु, विशाल-जल-राशि-सन्निधौ च चिन्तनशील-काल-व्यतीकरणम्॥१६॥
jīva-ātma-parirakṣaṇam sakārātmaka-pariveśe, uttama-devālayeṣu, viśāla-jala-rāśi-sannidhau ca cintanaśīla-kāla-vyatīkaraṇam॥16॥
Soul and spirit maintenance involves spending reflective time in positive environments, good shrines, and near large bodies of water.
सुख-हर्ष-प्रेम-सौन्दर्य-करुणा-स्रोतांसि प्रचुराणि, किन्तु चेतना-संलग्नता आवश्यका॥१७॥
sukha-harṣa-prema-saundarya-karuṇā-srotāṃsi pracurāṇi, kintu cetanā-saṃlagnatā āvaśyakā॥17॥
Sources of happiness, joy, love, beauty, and compassion are abundant, but require mindful engagement.
“जीव-रक्त-चूषकेभ्यः” सावधानो भव ये अन्येषाम् ऊर्जायाः विनिमयम् विना भक्षयन्ति। ऊर्जा-साझेदारीत्वे सन्तुलनम् मुख्यम्॥१८॥
“jīva-rakta-cūṣakebhyaḥ” sāvadhāno bhava ye anyeṣām ūrjāyāḥ vinimayam vinā bhakṣayanti। ūrjā-sājhedārītve santulanam mukhyam॥18॥
Be wary of ‘soul vampires’ who feed off others’ energy without exchange. Balance is key in energy sharing.
महान्तो जीवाः ये प्राचुर्येण ददति तेषाम् पुनः-आवेशन आवश्यकम्। ते पुनरुत्पादने निपुणतराः भवेयुः, तथापि पोषणम् आवश्यकम्॥१९॥
mahānto jīvāḥ ye prācuryeṇa dadāti teṣām punaḥ-āveśana āvaśyakam। te punarutpādane nipuṇatarāḥ bhaveyuḥ, tathāpi poṣaṇam āvaśyakam॥19॥
Great souls that give abundantly need to recharge. They may be more proficient at regenerating, but still need nourishment.
शान्ति-प्रेम-सौन्दर्य-परिवृत्त्या स्व-अन्तः-परीक्षण-दैनिक-काल-खण्डाः जीव-परिरक्षणे अत्यावश्यकाः॥२०॥
śānti-prema-saundarya-parivṛttyā sva-antaḥ-parīkṣaṇa-dainika-kāla-khaṇḍāḥ jīva-parirakṣaṇe atyāvaśyakāḥ॥20॥
Daily periods of quiet introspection and surrounding oneself with peace, love, and beauty are essential for soul maintenance.
